Since 2005, EGG has hosted an annual research and training symposium held at a small conference center in Lava Hot Springs, a resort south of Pocatello, Idaho. About 50 people attend each year, representing nearly every college and university in Idaho, plus institutions in Montana, Utah, Nevada and Wyoming. Invited speakers have come from all over the country. Each year we choose a theme, invite a keynote speaker who embodies the theme and hold a series of research talks by attendees who conduct work in that theme. I also coordinate training sessions to teach grad students and others how to conduct the analyses highlighted in the research talks. For the last two years, we’ve added held educational sessions on how to integrate bioinformatics into the biology curriculum.
Due to Dr. Thomas's sabbatical, the ISU Bioinformatics Workshop was not held in 2010. We'll be back in Lava Hot Springs in October, 2011! Please contact members of the EGG lab if you'd like to participate in the organization of the 2011 Workshop. |
